CONTACT LIST OF OSA MEMBERS If you want to be included on the following list please email me with your name, email address, the year that you left the Upper Sixth (or would have left the Upper Sixth if you left earlier) and a mini-biography (just two or three lines saying when you left BSN, what you did then and what you are doing now). Only include snailmail adddresses and telephone numbers if you are really sure you want them published to the whole wide world (not only BSNers read this page). Hopefully, this list will enable more members to easily keep in contact - maybe you will even renew some lost contacts.

I left the English School of The Hague in 1977 (April); I believe I was in the 4th or 5th
form when I left. My sister Helen, and my brother Trevor, and I moved to the United States
and we have been living here ever since. I graduated from Bowling Green State University
(Ohio) in 1983 with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science. I've been in the
high-technology field ever since (21 years at the time of this writing). I live in Portland,
Oregon, on the West Coast. I am currently a customer Project Manager for a software company.
I am married to Pam and have two boys, Geoff (18) and Ryan (16). My how time flies! I often
think about my days at the English School. I would love to hear from any of my former
class-mates.

Left BSN in 1994 after fifth form. Spent one year in Seattle, U.S.A. before starting an
English and European Law degree at the University of Essex. This saw me return to Holland
for one year at the University of Nijmegen. Graduated in 1999 and spent the last year as a
sabbatical officer (Sports President). Still in contact with Jan Van Heddeghem (with me
right now), Steve Mence, Lynda Garner, Dave Tinsley. Saw Stuart Brown during the year doing
the same sports presidency for another uni. and Mrs. Cochrane who works at Essex Uni. Now a
law training contract hopefully. Living near Watford and wanting to hear from any old
BSN'ers. Anyone know where James Box is?
cheers.

Since leaving BSN at the end of 1983 I have had a wonderful challenging journey. After
moving back to Birmingham UK I completed "O" Levels before moving to West Germany, to the
International School of Frankfurt for IB's. After a couple of years convincing myself I was
never going to be a professional racing driver I went back to Brunel University and studied
Business Information Technology. On graduation I worked for Unisys, Bay Networks and Nortel
Networks as a enterprise and then telco new business salesman. Anyone who can remember the
Sun Newspapers ISP offering in 1999 "Current Bun", yours trully sold the kit to make it work.
Just before the Dot Com bubble burst I joined a start up selling Websites for SME's
culminating in a deal with LloydsTSB for their SME customers. Then after the Dot Com bubble
bust the start up ran out of cash and I started up again with a couple of the software
developers and zero investment, see my forth comming book "Start up's - how not to do it".
After a number of lean, lean years with a stint as a barman and 3 weeks as a Christmas
postman(!) we are looking to expand and things are getting interesting again. During this
time my home life has been just as exciting; marrying Vicky in 1999 whilst living in Ealing
W.London, in 2000 we moved to Farnham Surrey and had our daughter Zoe in Oct 2001. In Aug
2003 we had twin boys Freddie and Ryan. The end of 2003 and the first half of 2004 is just a
blur of disturbed 4 hours a night sleep. The second half of 2005 has finally reached the
stage that a bloke imagines family life to be like before he actually starts one!

Time in the BSN: April 1992 - July 1993 (A levels : Physics, Maths, F. Math and
Chemistry)
What did I think of it: I really enjoyed my time at the BSN. Made lots of friends and
found the teaching staff to be very supportive. Starting A-levels in the 3rd term of the
lower 6 was quite tough but I pulled through with the help and encouragement of my class
mates and the teachers. I especially have fund memories of Mrs Woodhead. I wonder what
she's up to these days.
Life after the BSN: I spent 3 years at the imperial College of Science, Technology &
Medicine in London. Graduated in June of 1996 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering.
I've since worked as an Oilfield Engineer with Baker Atlas. The job has taken me to the US,
Nigeria, Ajerbaijan, and Malaysia. I'm presently based in Aberdeen, Scotland where I work
offshore on the Oil rigs, providing Petrophysical Data Acquisition Services, amongst a host
of other services to the Oil Companies that we work for. My job involves working with
radioactive sources, Explosive charges
On a more personal note: Emike Imomoh, also an ex-BSN student, has recently traded in her
last name for mine. That's right, we got married and I know those of you who know us are all

Had I finished in the BSN, I would have been in the Class of 1999, but I attended BSN from
1992-94 before moving back to Nigeria to complete Secondary School.
I studied at Saint Louis University from 1999 - 2001 in Madrid Spain, and finished up my
undergraduate studies in Saint Louis, Missouri, USA (2001 - 2003). I graduated with a B.S. in
Computer Science.
I'll be going back to school to do my Masters in the Fall of 2005. I will aslo be working as
a Programmer at a Neuro Science Research Lab, at Washington University (also in Saint Louis)
I've lost touch with all my BSN Classmates, but typing this up brings back some memories,
especially from the field trips to Terschelling and Altenahr. I remember doing a lot of
washing up duty for some reason. If anyone remembers me or wants to get in contact with me
you feel free to send me an email. I was in Mr Iverson's Class in Year 6, and Mrs Moore's

Ece Agusman
[Class of 1988]
After leaving in 1988, I went to the European Business School in London
to study Business Administration.˙ However, after my first year, I
returned to Turkey (which I had left when I was 8 mths old...) and
decided to carry on studying Tourism and Hotel Management.˙ After my
graduation from Bilkent University, I had a long history of employment
trying to find the right place for me.˙ Unfortunately, hotels and
tourism was not "exactly" right for me (I'm not going to bore you with
details).˙ Anyway, I ended up working for big international companies
in Ankara, such as Coca-Cola, Mobil Exploration, The Sheraton Ankara
Hotel & Towers, among many many others, mainly working as an
admin.coordinator.˙ My English, has really come in handy, along with my
French, Dutch, German and Italian (these are great assets for someone
looking for a job in Turkey).
˙
Finally, about two years ago, I decided to get a place of my own and
moved away from my parents.˙ This, added to my "radical" image with my
new friends in Turkey (it is not very common for girls to live alone
before marriage!).˙ I went one step further and moved to Istanbul about
3 months ago, where I work as a Banking Operations Specialist for a
company representing Giesecke & Devrient of Germany.˙ I'm enjoying my
job very much and have found it easy to meet new people and start a
completely new life.˙ This last mention of "new life" is another long
story I won't bore you with just yet!
˙
On a brighter note, all my "musical" experience at the BSN has kept me
going, and I managed to set up a musical group, consisting of 21
amateur musicians (11 orchestra, 11 vocals) with which we have given
about 15 major concerts to crowds of up to 3000 spectators.˙ I further
managed to stage three musicals at TED Ankara College where my mother
(Fsun) was teaching until 1996.˙ She has now retired and besides her
relations with the International Women's Clubs is busy travelling
between Ankara, Istanbul and Skopje.
˙
Anyway, my sister, Lale Agusman (graduate of '91) has pursued a career
in diplomacy and has just had her first posting to the Turkish Embassy
in Skopje, Macedonia as Attach for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs,
where she will spend two years after which she will be posted elsewhere
for a further three.˙ She has her feet well in the ground and is
enjoying her assignment tremendously.˙ She may be reached as follows:
lagusman@yahoo.com I'm sure she'll love to hear from her friends!
˙
I managed to come to the reunion in 1994 and hope to catch up with my
old friends and teachers once again (and keep in touch this time!).˙
I'd love to receive news and details for the next reunion (I believe it
is schedule for 2000).

Although I may currently be back in my home Scotland, I haven't a clue where I'll be heading

Hello there! I left BSN in 1996 after 9 long years in Holland! I then moved
on to Birmingham Uni where I spent the next three years trying to get out of
my civil engineering degree. Fortunately they never let me leave, and
eventually I fell in love with the profession (good job, as there's no money
in engineering!). I stayed in Birmingham after that to do an MSc in Water
Resources Technology and Management, which I finished last September. I went
traveling for a couple of months and met up with Karen and Miss Smith (now
happily married to Edwin) in Chile. We also bumped into Chica (in the year
above me) on the ski slopes - small world, eh? After delaying the
unavoidable for as long as I could, I moved to Epsom to live with my

skiing is sensational!) and then moved a vast distance down the road to Geneva where I have
been ever since, working in Marketing for Procter & Gamble, living just behind the lake.
Surprisingly (?), weekends are mainly spent skiing around Chamonix in winter or heading to

Hello all! I don't know if anyone remembers me but I was the Turkish girl who did a brief

Thijs(Moes) and I were head prefects in 6th Form. I was at the English School at Tapijtweg
1966-1970 and have fond memories of our head, Mrs. Donaldson, Mr. Carrington (then our
English Lit teacher, later our head), Mr. Wachters (our long-suffering Math teacher-we drove

remember our gatherings at the Bowling Alley in Scheveningen, and our lunches at the nearby
caf, where our favourite pastime was playing fuáball. I frequently would team with Helen
(Kennedy) in fuáball against the boys (they hated it when we won, which was often!). Since
leaving The Hague, I went on to study Biology at university in the United States and
continued on with graduate studies in Molecular Genetics. I became an American citizen and
pursued a career in genetic research in several academic institutions, including Harvard
Medical School, Boston, USA. Later I lived in Istanbul, Turkey for 6 years. I have since

I entered BSN as a first year in 1986, and left after my GCSE's in 1991. I then went to
Geneva where I completed the IB. Not knowing quite what to study, I went to Sheffield
University and read Geography and Sociology, followed by a one year PGCE. It turns out that
kids were not my thing. Following a year doing odd jobs in Holland and Belgium, I got an
internship, and later a job, at the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) in Bonn,
Germany. I spent two years there, with a six month tour of duty in Macedonia helping the
evacuation of Kosovar refugees. I then spent three months in at IOM Headquarters in Geneva,
Switzerland. At short notice, I went to Vienna, Austria to work on a counter trafficking
project focusing on Central Europe and the Balkans. Much travel and over a year later, I was
asked to go to Afghanistan for six months to support the voluntary return of IDPs. That was
in March, and I am still here in Kabul, with a new contract for an additional six months
working on a small grants project to build roads, schools and the like. It is a fascinating
experience.

Mathmatical Statistics. I graduated in 1994 and started work for a small
airline called "Jersey European" (now called "British European") once owned
by Jack Walker of Blackburn Rovers. After 2 years of going no where quickly
I joined State Street Bank in London, and took a greater interest in the
financial markets. Hence I now work for Schroders Investment Management
Dealing in the Asian Markets and running portfolios for umpteen US clients.
Currently live in the Kennington area just south of the river and would love
to get in touch with some of the reprobates that graduated in '91. Currently
in touch with Peter and Daniel Gryzonka, Dan Whick, Derren Bevington and
several other low lifes, so if anyone fancies a liquid lunch in the city
please get in touch.

After A-levels went to Leeds Uni eventually leaving with a BSc in Human
Biology. Then after working in the big smoke and traveling in Latin America
decided for my sins to go back to school and attempt the becoming a doctor
thing. So in January 2002, I'm studying medicine at Guys, Kings and St
Thomas's medical school in London. Just moved into my own pad in
Camberwell and am plodding on pretty nicely - the eternal student. Am still
in touch with a fair few BSNers but any others out there who fancy it, drop
me an e-mail.

[Class of 1988]
I left BSN in 1986 but my upper sixth form would have been 1988. In 1996 I
heading for sunny Spain and the Norwegian education system. Six years
later, and well back in Norway, I got my engineering degree in "Technical
Environmental Protection and Aquaculture". Scotland was the next step,
where I achieved my Masterdegree in "Marine Resource, Development and
Protection". My project work with the Norwegian oil company Statoil led to
employment, and I've been working with them ever since. I started off with
environmental work, but am currently working as a Senior Drilling Engineer.
In 1997 I married Trym, and changed my name to Ashild Bakke Rokkones (nee
Ashild Bakke). We have no kids, and apart from work we have an agenda
filled with travel, swing dancing, bicyle organisational work, family and
friends.....hope to hear from some ex-BSN friends

Having now spent 3 years down in Sunny Toulouse, we
have decided to make this totally permanent & have
sold up in the UK. We are just waiting for someone to
buy the house & then will upgrade out here. My French
has now massively improved (much to the surprise no
doubt of my poor teachers when at BSN), to a point
where I can use more words & less sign language & even
sometimes get what I want first time. I have wasted
my weekends in winter with vague attempts at
snowboarding in Pyrenees, and the summer with swimming
in the Med. My next aim is to join the local wind &
surf group & learn windsurfing. We are both involved
in the local pantomime group, which is done in
English, but attracts a completely international
audience, and we get groups of French school kids who
come to learn a little about English culture (so yes,
I am to partly blame for this deranged image the
French have of Brits). Well not much else to say, but
if any of you who remember me are done this way, you
are more than welcome to drop me a line & we could
meet up.

To summarise......I graduated in 1998 with a degree in illustration from Falmouth college of
Arts. Moved up to Norfolk and spent five years in a dead end job which I hated. Went back to
Art college for a year (2002/03) which got me motivated once again, and made me realise what
I really wanted out of life. It's now over ten years since leaving the BSN and I think I've
finally reached where I want to be. Happy in my work, actually managing to make ( a fairly
decent) living out of what I love doing, 'drawing'. The best thing is I manage to do this
from a lovely, if not a little quirky home, ( boat shed on the Norfolk broads) and I have a
lovely man to share it all with. Life really couldn't get much better.

I am working as a TV producer, and do journalist work occasionally as well.

The TV films I have been making are programmes such as;
Reflections of Winter: a series about the people who made the Official

The 1976 one will be shown on Monday the 21st at 10.00pm Uk time on Sky

am working on a similar programme for the R+A on the Open,..golf.
I am married with one daughter age 10 (going on 15), called Sophie,
and live in Fulham in London.
I still ski for fun, and work: doing corporate hosting ski week-ends etc.
I went to one of the school reunions a couple of years ago, with some of my
class mates, Linda Randolph, Marianne, and Christine, but I have been really
busy the last 15 months so I have lost a bit of touch.
These electrical toys though facilitate that though!

I did return to work after having had Alex and enjoyed being P/T Mum as well as working. I
managed to return to work on a 2 day week basis. It couldn't have been more perfect. I am now
back on maternity leave however having had a 2nd boy called Sam just 3 weeks ago. It's
constant feeds and sleepless nights! I do hope to return to work once more in Feb 02. My
sister Kate (86) is still working as a solicitor, but she too has had a 2nd child, Natasha, a
year ago. Sonja (91) is currently working at the Basel Internatoinal School as a senior
school maths teacher. If anybody remembers Miss Parker, teacher from the junior school, she
works there too. Sonja is still in contact with Kath Bloe who lives in Southampton and is
training to be a nurse. Phil (96) has a girlfriend Annie and is currently working/training as

I left Holland in 1984 and went back to England to continue with O and A Levels. To cut a
very long story short I went to drama school for three years and moved to London. After a few
minor TV jobs( not as an extra I hasten to add), I got a big break touring with Lily Savage
for 6 months in"Prisoner Cell Block H- The Musical"...tour of debauchery springs to mind...
Unemployement reared its' ugly head and so I moved to Manchester and has luck has it managed
to get quite a good run of Television work.
Once again signing on became a way of live so I joined a temping agency and worked for
numerous companies. I decided to sack my agent and start again, so I signed with a different
agent and moved back to London in October 1999. Since then I have sung backing vocals with
The Stranglers and joined an all girl Rockabilly band and recently I have just filmed a
"White Lightening Cider" commercial ( yes I know, student drink, tramps poison.. heard all
the jokes..) and this will be screened in July 2000. I would love to hear from old friends
again and have been really lucky to have rekindled a few friendships since moving back to

[Class of 1976]
Well, where to begin ..... I've certainly led a checkered life all these
years, and my guess is, it ain't over yet! After completing A Levels in
1976 I went to England and spent the best part of a year obtaining an
instructor's certificate in horse-riding. Actually working in the field
did not last terribly long - 6 months or so (on a full-time basis, anyway),
and then went on to various careers in Accounting, Advertising and
Secretarial in Retail, Banking and Real Estate all in the London area. I
married in September 1982, but separated less than 2 years later and
eventually got divorced. Finally, bored and restless, at the end of 1987 I
moved to America and joined my father, mother and brothers (who are both
BSN alums) in the field of Chiropractic. I graduated with a double degree
(Doctor of Chiropractic and Bachelor of Science) and Research Honors in
June, 1992 and went on to practice for 4 years. I found that while I love
the academics of Chiropractic, I personally found little or no reward in
the practice, so, once again, I quit in 1996 - with the exception of moving
to Holland for 3 1/2 months to take over my father's practice at the end of
that year while he had surgery. Since that time I have not practiced
again. However, both Johann (who I know keeps in touch with Pam Van
Driel-Senior) and Arie are successful Chiropractors - Johann in Dallas,
Texas, and Arie in Weert/Heerlen (check out his website on
http:/www.chiropractie-vanbeest.nl). Finally, in June of 1997 I joined an
insurance brokerage firm in Savannah, Georgia as the assistant to the Legal
Counsel. I guess at this point I have found my niche (for now ....) The
job has challenged me and held my interest consistently and I have moved
laterally/upward to take the position of Licensing Administrator, handling
all agent and corporate licensing matters and various other aspects of
corporate compliance. There is a new legal assistant filling my "old"
shoes, although I still work within the Legal department, and will have my
own assistant, beginning March 13th. Other than work, many of you will
recall my interest in music, mainly singing (I lament with all you other
BAD guitarists out there, but it didn't stop any of us, did it!?!)
Finally, in my 30's I began taking professional voice lessons - amazing how
quickly one's voice can change! My musical involvement has just growed and
growed since then. Highlights include singing at my own graduation in 1992
and at Arie's wedding in 1998. Here in Savannah, Georgia, I sing with a
Church, a professional chorus (I Cantori) and I cantor in the local
reformed synagogue on Saturday mornings, plus the "gigs" that come my way
from time to time. Other than meeting Vincent Jacobs in London a few times
in 1986 I have not kept in touch with any other classmates, but have built
a friendship with Pam Senior through my brother, Johann, and I still enjoy
our infrequent correspondence. I thank my sister, Joke, who alerted me to
this website - she and her husband, Bryn are most involved with the BSN now
that their 4 kids attend, and of course, I had to check out my godson's
picture from the ski trip! She has fond memories of taking a ski trip with
the Tongs and Wynnes twenty-something years ago ... even though she was
never actually a student at the BSN herself. I can be reached via email at
Elizabeth_Van_Beest@palmercay.com. Would love to entertain any of you
visiting Savannah (possibly one of the most gorgeous cities in America -
can undertand why Sherman was persuaded not to burn it!) BFN

I am Johann Van Beest. Graduated in 1978, and was at that time madly in love
with Lydia Hearn. I wonder where she is now? I have however, had the
priveledge of staying in touch with Pam Senior/ Van Driel, my history
teacher, who showed me so very much for which I cannot thank her too this day
enough. After the British School, I did not do so well in my final exams and
had to move to England to go to a "Crammer", so that I could actually learn
something!!!! I to this day believe this to have been Lydia's fault for she
wa all that I thought about!!! From there, I went to Leeds Polytechnic Law School and a more
dismal failure
I do not think they ever did see and the politely asked me to leave a year
later. I went to America and move to Davenport, Iowa where I actually did
study and actually did study and became a Chiropractor. While in Iowa, I
managed ot get married to Miss Iowa from the Miss America Pageant and we have
been married now for almost 17 years and have three children: Danielle
Alexandra - 15, Dominique Christiane - 13, and Julian Richard Bentley - 5.
They are wonderful children and actually have been to the British School to

played lacrosse for Scotland two years running. I
then moved to Glasgow to go to The Royal Scottish

I graduated this year with a degree in 'technical and

Great to find this has been set up. We are Lesley Benson and Douglas Hopping.
Both left 1975 (from Upper VIth). We were at Parkweg 17 - it was a very
special place, with so many memories, including of some excellent teachers
(as they say - noone forgets a good teacher!). Mind you, you also remember
the wacky ones, and we had them too (you know who you are - don't you?).
Spent 7 years in Edinburgh after degrees, then moved to Stoke Newington
(London) in 1985, and we're still here. We also have a house in
Lincolnshire, which gives us the best of both worlds.
Still with Douglas, 2 children, both boys, all exactly as I would wish.
I'm now a Nursery Headteacher, after a first career as a John lewis
Partnership manager.
Douglas is teaching Geography, very well, at secondary level (all that Mark
Wynne inspiration) - he went into teaching pretty soon after doing his
degree.

and about to get on the puppy ladder as well. The surfboards are still getting plenty of use
and it sounds as though there is to be a class of 1995 reunion in the Hague sometime later
this year. Still in touch with Nick Underwood, Clare Warren, Bianca McNulty, Mark Woodward
and others. Would be great to hear from any BSNers and if anyone is passing through the South
West come and have a surf and a beer.

Many years since I was at the British School. After leaving at the end of 1986 (Year 8?), I
completed high school in Sydney, Australia. I took a year out and went to university in the
US studying pre-law at Temple University, Philadelphia and wandering semi-aimlessly before
returning to the University of Sydney and completing a Bachelor of Science and a Master of
Arts in Psychology. I spent a year after graduation in the Department of Psychology there
working on a variety of projects before selling out to the corporate dollar. I'm now Senior
Project Manager for a market research and marketing company in Sydney that specialises in web
site and IT research, though my partner Sophie and I are seriously considering forgoing this
and going to do something socially conscious like teach English in central Africa.

In true BSN fashion, I spent my university years debating, campaigning at
European conferences on Human Rights, organising the student union and
playing hockey. I also competed in Triathlon, back packed around the world,
collected tropical disease and discovered boys. Finally, my father put his
foot down so I was forced to sell my sole and join an Investment Bank in
London. I am happy to report that the BSN network is as strong as ever. A
few months ago my mother exclaimed "Mr. Snow!" as we unexpectedly bumped
into Patrik Silen in a far corner of England! I am going our next week to
visit Florine De Haas van Dorsen who is working at Los Angeles zoo over the
summer. Particularly noteworthy is that Wee Kathryn Macphee has become the
first ever woman to complete Rowallan Company at Sandhurst! After being
awarded with Best Cadet she is now pursuing a career in the army. I shall
save the other stories for the reunion on the 24th. I am expecting the
class of 92 to make a special effort!

I graduated in 1979 along with Jane White, Gavin Hudson (where is he now?),
and Mark Kingdon among others. I went to University of East Anglia to study
French, switched to English and Film (sorry, Mr Cliff). Eventually I ended
up at Sky TV as Operations Manager for 5 years. Then in 1993,I was offered
a job in Hong Kong as a Channel Manager for Star TV. It was very challenging
and sometimes frustrating but it was a huge opportunity to explore that side
of the world. I managed to swing holidays in the Phillipines, Thailand, the
Maldives, and Bali - the travel bug bit me, and I resigned my job (probably
to the horror of my parents!) I bought a round-the-world ticket and left for
Africa. I went on safari in Botswana, South Africa, and Zimbabwe where I
bungee-jumped from the Victoria Falls Bridge - awesome! I moved onto
Australia to see my brother Rod in Adelaide, met up with Jane White (now
Canaway), her charming husband and delightful kids in Melbourne, then moved
on to California. I decided to stay and started working as a costumer on TV
series and movies. It's been a challenging career (money is awful, and hours
are extremely long) but I love it. Four years ago, I married a wonderful man
called Dean - he's a Gaffer (Chief Lighting Technician) on movies too, so
sometimes we even get to work those long hours together. I have managed to
see Jane and family last year in Oz, and am hoping to meet up with Siobhan
Gannon and Fiona Benson very soon! Anybody in LA wants to meet up, e-mail

I have only just found out about the website and even that was purely by accident - a pity
really as I have been in London for the last two years and could have caught up with so many
of you!
After BSN I went to University to do Languages - spent a mad year out in Strasbourg - After
graduating I got stuck in Abu Dhabi after having gone there on Holiday to visit Mum and Dad.
After spending two years running a branch office for an inbound tour operator, I decided to
come back to Europe to do my Masters. The temptation of the beach and sunshine were too much
for me in the end and I went straight back to the Middle East (Dubai this time) after
finishing my degree. I ended up in the hotel industry. Three years and two hotel openings
later, I decided to brave the weather and moved back to London. I have been in IT /
Distribution Technology for the last two years and unfortunately also got stung by the
internet bubble bursting! So . I am now all packed up and ready to move again - this time to
Berlin - and back into what I know best - hotel and resort marketing. If nothing else at
least you get to enjoy the facilities! Would be great to hear from anyone/everyone

I have been here in Vahun, Liberia for almost two weeks now and the work is
very challenging. Occasionally feel I am a little out of my depth, but I am
learning quickly and it is definitely what I want to be doing. The first week
was fairly quiet although still taxing settling in to such a different
working environment, but in the last 2 days UNHCR have registered over 6000 new
refugees so the total of those crossing from Sierra Leone since the beginning
of February this year is at least 35000, although nobody knows for sure.
I am the only doctor here. It seems amazing to me that my first experience of e:mail
is sending one from a mud hut town, without electricity (we have a generator), no running
water and, sadly, the most monotonous food I have ever had. Food is the
only thing I am pining for. It would be great to hear from the outside world, especially
if it is news that isn't about food shortages, child mortality and fractional
fighting. WE HAVE LEFT THE FOREGOING BECAUSE WE THINK SO MANY FORMER BSNERS WILL
WISH TO READ OF JOE'S ADVENTURES. BUT THE LATEST COMMUNICATION FROM HIM
IS AS FOLLOWS: Dear All.
Another sad general message I'm afraid. Just a quick note to say hello and
that I'm leaving Vahun, and this wonderful e-mail thingy at the end of this
week. So the last time I shall be here to pick up messages on this address
is Wednesday night, 9th September. I'm just trying to ensure that messages
don't arrive for me after that date as it will cost the guys I'm leaving
behind for them.
So thanks for writing while I've been here. It has definitely kept me
happy. E-mail collecting nights are eagaly anticipated. I'll be back in
England on 16th September. Will hopefully see people as soon as possible
after that.
Well I hope you are well and forgive me this impersonal message.
Love Joe
ps I shall stay at mum and dad's (0181 398 3740) or Kathy's (0171 787 6750)

obviously if you have an English accent you must be a terrorist, they've
seen the movies. I'm absolutely loving living over here in Pasadena. I'm
playing plenty of Ultimate frisbee with the Caltech women's team, making
frequent excursions into Hollywood to check out a whole load of live music

[Class of 1979]
My Father left the Netherlands in 1978 to move to Northern Virginia. My mother moved back to
British Columbia. I was supposed to go to a boarding school (I think Kim Stammers was there
if anyone remembers the name), but I ended up hating that idea and moved to the US with my
Father. I had completed the lower 6th at the time and managed to do horribly in a single "A"
level in mathematics. This was the beginning of a string of rather poor scholastic
performances which I attribute to my parent's divorce, the change in schools (after all I
have been at the English School (and later BSN) for all of my schooling life (1966 to 1978).
I spent a year at George Mason University in Fairfax, Va - did poorly and moved to Vancouver.
I was determined to take a Chemical Engineering degree at UBC - but after 3 months there I
dropped out. I managed a Kentucky Fried Chicken franchise for about 3 years. Well that set me
on my feet and took me out of my shell, but was a nowhere, dead end job. I started to study
Computing Science part time at Simon Fraser University and (after a year of this and getting
decent grades (finally)) my Father offered to make it possible for me to go full time (very
nice of him under the circumstances and given my track record to date). I graduated with a
BSc in Computing Science (minor in Mathematics) in 1986. I worked for a small startup
(Syntronix Systems) in B.C. for 3 years building a golf simulator/game. I learned more than I
can tell you techincally, but it might have been better if I had had an MBA - because what
we lacked was the ability to market, manufacture and sell the technology - sigh.... I
received an offer from ICL (yes the UK based computing giant) to work in Reston, Va and
packed my bags for yet another cross-continent move. 1989. As I am unplugging my phone to
pack it on the moving van, I get an interview offer from Microsoft in Redmond (oh would that
have changed my financial life in a nice way). However I kept my word to ICL and moved to
Virginia. 1984, I met my wife to be (Kathryn Edwards), bought a condo and changed jobs all in
the space of a month (they say that is a bad idea to change too many of these at once - in
my case it was all necessary). I came to a small company called DataFocus in Fairfax, Va.
Kathy and I were married in June 1995 (Honeymooned in Hawaii), DataFocus merged with MKS (a
Canadian company - interesting turn of events) in 1997 and to make a long story short I did
not make a mint in the high tech boom. However I am proud of the product I built (for the
techno-weenies among you, it is NuTCRACKER a Unix API layer on the Win32 subsystem of NT) and
I am currently the Director of Software Engineering for the MKS Toolkit product line
(http://www.mkssoftware.com) based in Fairfax, Va. My wife and I have two boys (Christopher
(nearly 5) and Matthew (2 1/2)) and are expecting a final child - the sonograms show a girl
(we are so excited) due in October 2004. We live in a small community about 20 miles outside
Washington D.C. (Bristow, Va). I know that I was listed on bsnosa a few years ago, but
somehow was dropped. I was delighted to see so many familiar names when I surfed to the site
yesterday (although disappointed to see that I was no longer listed). I would be happy to
correspond with anyone dropping me an e-mail, and of course if you are ever in the D.C. area,
please look me up. I don't get over to europe at all any more (once with ICL in 1992). We
have a VERY out of date web site with pictures of the house and kids mostly. Ian Spinks and
parents were last sighted in New York - for anyone looking for him. His brother Alistair, I
think, moved to Colorado Springs a few years ago. I have to say that I have not had contact
with anyone else in 25+ years (yikes, that is a long time).

I saw my mini-biography hadn't been updated for 5 years and so I thought it was about time I
wrote something new for you to read! After leaving the BSN in '95 I spent a fantastic 3 years
at Newcastle University... great Uni, great city! In '98 I left with a BSc in Biology and
Biochemistry but decided I needed to enter a profession with a prospect of earning some good
money! I therefore embarked on an MSc in IT at Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh and on
graduation landed myself an IT job back in Holland. After surviving the fall-out on the
dot.com bust I am still working at the same American firm 6 years later.... only I have since
relocated to London and have moved into account management and consulting. I am now living

solicitor with a law firm in the city. Chantal and I are in touch (and frequently meet up)

[Staff]
It is with great sadness that we have to report that Bob
Carrington died at the age of 81. Bob was appointed Head of the Senior Division
and Deputy Principal in 1968. He retired in 1979 after the merging of the
Middle and Senior Divisions and the move to Voorschoten; which he organised.
It is impossible to overestimate the role he played in the history of the
School. He was looked on very much as a father-figure, by staff and pupils
alike and his insistence on the highest standards in both work and behaviour
did much to fashion the ethos of the Senior School.

[Class of 1992]
After leaving Holland, which now seems eons ago, I studied A levels and then went on to
Newcastle University to study International Business Management and to thoroughly enjoy
myself! I then decided to take some time out and disappeared to France to ski rep, where I
met Jerome, my French partner. We are now settled in the UK (for the time being anyway!),
living in Chester. Jerome is now a tennis coach and I am a sales manager based in Liverpool.
I would love to hear from anyone who remembers me - I haven't been very good at keeping in
touch so I've lost contact with a lot of people! In particular, if anyone has heard anything
of Mandi Roberts, Anna Jackson, Sam Haines (I believe she has married) or Helen Curtis I
would love to know!

After leaving Holland in 1990, the Carsleys returned to North Wales. My
brother Rob (class of 1990) went on to Leicester Uni to study Physics and
Space Science, and my sister Allie (class of 1992), went on to Newcaslte Uni
to study French and Management. As for me, I graduated from Leeds University
in 2000, then decided to put off the inevitable, by taking a trip around the
world! I'm currently living with mum and dad in Wales, but am soon to move
to Southampton to work in HR. Rob now works as a software engineer, and
lives in Edinburgh with his wife Anja, and their gorgeous new born baby Max.
Allie lives in Chester and is working as a category manager for an FMCG
company.
I'd really love to hear from anyone who remembers us, particularly those who
I've lost touch with over the years (Ainslee and Luke Higgins, Bev
Colclough, Nicola Day..)

After leaving the English School (as it was known then) in 1962, my family returned to the
U.S.--Illinois (more of a foreign posting than Holland was!). I graduated high school,
attended university for a couple of years, lived in Milwaukee and Madison, Wisconsin, and
then moved to Colorado where my father and family had been transferred. My then-husband was
transferred overseas with his job, so we were in Australia (Sydney) for four years and
England (near Windsor) for three years. While in England my sister and I were able to visit
Mrs. Donaldson (former BSN Headmistress) in Hove for an afternoon. After returning to the
U.S. I returned to university and graduated with an English Lit./Nonfiction Creative Writing
degree. I am now a freelance writer and editor. My husband and I live in the foothills west
of Fort Collins, Colorado on the edge of a seven-mile reservoir. We boat, ski, golf, ride
our motorcycles and travel. My sister and I will be in England and Holland in April visiting
old friends, new sites and favorite places. If any old students from my time see this,
please contact me.

my husband. We got married in 1992 and now have three beautiful daughters: Mariana (11),

My name is Rick Chandler and I just checked out the website and
boy do I feel old.
I was a student at the English School of the Hague during the years of 65-68,
not quite sure if it was Tapijtweg or Parkweg. (The memory is fading) Under
the regime of Mrs Phylis E Donaldson.MBE. I just recently remade contact with
my childhood sweetheart from the American School and found I had a daughter
and three grandchildren.Wow.......Hope there are no more suprises.
I have been rockin and rollin for 33 years with various bands and have only
recently settled down a bit. I now work in the Nuclear Industry in the UK, a
bit of a Homer Simpson really but not as fat. I knew physics would come in
useful....
If there is anyone out there that remembers me I am still around.

I am now happily living in the Lake District area with my husband Colin and our 2 gorgeous
daughters, Grace (8) and Georgia (6). At the moment I am successfully juggling work and home
life - which isn't as easy as you might think!
I left BSN in 1986 to return to England where I gained a 3 year apprenticeship with a
Shipbuilding and Engineering company. After 6 years as a Senior Estimating Officer I decided
to leave it all behind to become a full time mother. Although this was very rewarding,
after 4 years at home I became restless and decided to return to the workplace - but with a
change of direction. So now I am a senior local government officer, working with local
cabinet members to deliver strategic services within Cumbria. Sounds boring but I love it!
It would be fantastic to hear from anyone who remembers me. Just to jog your memory, my best
friend was Bryony Gilbey and Karen Ashbury was a close friend of ours.

After leaving the school in 1982 I moved to Plymouth with no great plans in life!! I joined
the TA to get my "Green Beret", and enrolled on a 3 year HNC Building Studies course to
become an Architectural Technician. I achieved both aims but after working in a drawing
office for a short time decided that this was not the life for me - so having taken up rock
climbing as a hobby, I opted for a career in outdoor pursuits Instead!!. I pursued this for
several years with a couple of them working as a rope access specialist in the oil industry
(Oman & Algeria), but like many in this profession moved into the IT world in the mid 1990's.
I am currently working as a software trainer for a company based in High Wycombe and spend
most of my week travelling around the country (mostly London) training on clients sites (have
bumped into Melissa Dring and Nicola Erington in my travels).
I live with Kathryn my long-time girlfriend, we have no kids/dogs/cats/hassles and enjoy life
to the full.
For those of you who remember my sisters - Julie is also living in Plymouth and has two young
children (4 & 1) and Tracey has retired (!!!) and currently looking to buy a house in Spain.

[Class of 1996]
Well hello everyone, I never knew the BSN had an old students home page. After looking
through some familiar names I decided it would be good form to leave my own mark. For those
of you who are wondering who I am, my name is Peter Clarke and I was the lanky bloke who used
to play incredibly annoying music in the common room (hope the tunes are still pumping at
lunch times). If you haven't already clicked off my name in boredom, I'd like to write a
little about what I've been doing over the last er... 4 or 5 years. First of all I for some
silly reason decided to brave the elements of a Scottish University (Stirling) and emerged a
successful graduate in English History (and beer drinking games).
At present I'm living in the Reading area south of London and somehow have managed to land
myself a job for BMW Financial Services (which 'really' does have a lot to do with my
degree..... honest') Aside from work though I'm still playing sport and partying just as much
as I did in Holland although at times I miss the late night bars of the Hague and that
famous cheese house of clubbing 'THE TEMPLE'. I'm sure a few of us oldies remember going
there on a few drunken evenings out.
Still I shall finish off now by saying please feel free any of you who remember me to drop an
email through, it would be nice to catch up and have a bit of a laugh. regards Peter C.

After graduating from Nottingham University back in 1998 with a degree in Architecture, I
joined the John Lewis Partnership on their graduate training scheme for a bit of a change.
However, after a year on the shop floor selling lawnmowers I decided that I much preferred
being the customer rather than serving them and left to join a small advertising agency in
London. And although I really enjoyed my time there and will probably go back to the
industry, after two years I got itchy feet and decided to up and move to Australia for a
year. And that's where I am at the moment. I have been in Sydney now for 8 months and am
really enjoying myself. About to go off travelling round the outback and my plans of going
back to the UK in January are likely to change with a slight detour via New Zealand first. So
anyone coming out here drop me a line and I'll chuck a few shrimps on the barbee!
Update March 2003:
Am back in the UK and back with my old ad agency! They asked me to help set up their Bristol
office and having no desire to go back to London I said yes - so that is where I am now.
Don't know the city from adam, but it seems like a great place and looking forward to
settling in. So can't offer you the Opera House but I can do the Clifton Suspension Bridge!

modern Churchill college with Amanda Wardle and Jon Steenbrink. Decided to specialise in
quantum chemistry, which was fun and interesting, if not particularly relevant to everyday
life, but had the advantage that the practicals were much easier. Carried on with the
chemistry theme by getting a job with Exxon Chemical initially in sunny Southampton and have
just been sent back to Holland for a couple of years on the basis that I spoke some Dutch.
Currently living in Rotterdam and looking forward to meeting up with anybody else still out
